One-stop commercial real estate services

Bertwood Realty was founded to help international retailers establish their presence in America. Based in New York, Bertwood Realty has extensive retail and real estate experience. Founded by Bertrand de Soultrait, Bertwood Realty knows luxury, retail and real estate.

We’re fluent in French, Spanish, Hebrew, English and most important, Real Estate.
We take a strategic approach to finding locations. Yes, we use the latest real estate software and we troll the latest listings like everyone else, but what makes Bertwood Realty different is our focus on ‘off-market’ opportunities. We walk the streets daily. We talk to retailers and have strong ties with landlords. Most important, we have a good idea of who’s doing business, and who isn’t.

Our street-level market intelligence identifies space before it hits the market. That’s one reason why our clients are so successful.

We represent tenants and landlords, handle lease negotiations, lease renewals, relocations, and we can also assist with your design, construction and operational needs.

About Bertwood Realty

Bertrand de Soultrait created Bertwood Realty because he saw a gap in the market: few brokers effectively represented international retailers in the United States. Bertrand set out to address this gap by establishing Bertwood Realty, leveraging his experience and contacts in helping international retailers succeed in the United States.

Bertrand co-founded with his brother Vicomte A, a successful French apparel company with $20 million in annual sales. Today, over 500 retailers carry the brand and there are 40 company owned stores worldwide. Bertrand was instrumental in the company’s success, but he discovered while overseeing Victomte A’s growth strategy that his real passion was real estate.

Bertrand launched his commercial brokerage career at NYCRS, a small Manhattan-based retail firm, where he quickly exhibited strong deal-making skills, closing 20 transactions in his first two years.

In 2011, he was approached by multi-‘NYC Deal of the Year’ winners Chase Welles and David Firestein to join their team at SCG Retail. SCG is the urban division of The Shopping Center Group, the largest privately owned real estate service company in the country.

Bertrand was responsible for developing the international business, bringing several significant brands to NYC including Europe’s largest Sushi chain, SushiShop (100 stores worldwide). He also introduced Carre d’artistes, a famous French art-gallery and relocated the well-known Saint James from Madison Avenue to Bleecker.

Bertrand also represented Landlords while at SCG Retail. Noteworthy leases included 27 Prince Street to Han Kjobenhavn, the first US store for the famed Danish Retailer; 321 Bleecker to the French retailer Jeremy Argyle; and a ‘pop-up’ store for Dannijo, NYC’s hot new jewelry designer.

Bertwood was created in fall of 2013, to this day, Bertrand and his team have already concluded over $85,000,000 in aggregate lease value including but not limited to: Two new Laduree flagship stores, Michel& Augustin first space in NY, Anne et Valentin fourth store in NY, Arianna Skincare’s third NY store and Teads a 8,000sqft office/showroom on lower Fifth Avenue.

Born in Paris, Bertrand is fluent in French, Spanish and of course, English. He makes frequent trips to Europe and South America in search of great brands seeking to make their mark in the United States.
